Hello! I'm Cristina

About Me

Hello! I’m Cristina Martin, a Registered Counsellor originally from Switzerland, with a Master’s in Counselling Psychology. I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, supporting individuals from all walks of life—from children and adolescents facing school challenges to adults navigating addiction and complex life transitions. I’m deeply passionate about creating safe, welcoming spaces where people can explore their experiences and grow at their own pace.

I’ve always felt a strong pull toward working with children and youth. My journey began as a young adult working in summer camps, which sparked a deep interest in human development and led me to pursue a Bachelor of Psychology in Nova Scotia. I later moved to Victoria, where I supported children as a learning support tutor. My growing desire to work with marginalized populations drew me toward mental health and addictions, where I supported adults for several years.

Despite this meaningful work, I deeply missed working with young people. This inspired me to complete a Bachelor of Education in Ontario and work as an elementary teacher—an experience that took me back to Switzerland and eventually to Australia. Yet, my passion for mental health remained, and I ultimately returned to Canada to support children and youth in mental health settings. This path naturally led me to pursue a Master in Counselling Psychology, so I could better support children, youth, and families navigating mental health challenges. Being neurodiverse myself, I feel deeply connected to this work—it feels like home. Supporting others in finding their way is not just my work; it’s my purpose.

My Philosophy

My counselling philosophy is grounded in the belief that healing begins in connection—with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. I see therapy as a collaborative and empowering process, where each person’s story is met with compassion, curiosity, and respect. I believe every individual holds inner wisdom and resilience, and I strive to create a calm, supportive space where that can emerge and grow.

I speak three languages fluently—English, French, and Italian—and have basic to intermediate proficiency in two others. I offer counselling sessions in both English and French. My multilingual background and international experiences have broadened my perspective and deepened my connection to diverse cultures, which I bring into my practice with cultural humility and sensitivity.

Having worked with children, youth, parents, and young adults, I find great fulfillment in helping people find their own “north star”—that unique path to self-discovery and growth. I am LGBTQ2S+ friendly and committed to supporting individuals from all backgrounds, fostering a space where everyone feels seen, accepted, and valued.

When I’m not working, you’ll often find me exploring nature, skiing, or simply enjoying the outdoors. But what truly brings me joy is helping others feel supported and empowered as they navigate their personal journey toward healing and self-awareness.
