Hello! I’m Becca
About Me
Hello and welcome!
I earned my Master of Social Work degree in Ottawa from Carleton University, located on the unceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin peoples, and I now live and work in Victoria on the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. Through my work in neonatal and pediatric intensive care, perinatal care, and psychiatry I gained experience walking alongside families in crisis and bearing witness to their resilience. At the Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health, I’ve had the opportunity to support families both in the Early Intervention Program and in my current role in infant mental health. I’ve worked closely with children with complex neurodevelopmental differences, and medical needs. As well, I’ve worked with families facing systemic barriers such as housing and food insecurity, and work to understand how these factors shape each individual families well-being. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of trauma, attachment, and child development, and continue to guide my commitment to practicing in a way that upholds dignity, equity, and respect for all families.
My Philosophy
I believe counselling is a space where the full spectrum of human experience, including joy, struggle, playfulness, and pain, can be held with openness and care. I have a long-standing passion for supporting children and families navigating life’s complexities—whether that’s through play, mindfulness, or exploring personal narratives that no longer serve us. With humility, I strive to provide culturally responsive care that honours clients’ existing strengths and wisdom.
My person-centred approach is inspired by family systems theory, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, non-directive play therapy, feminist counselling, and emotionally-focused therapy. This is complemented by my training as a yoga and meditation instructor, which enables me to offer clients the opportunity to explore embodied experiences of healing. My focus is to partner with clients, upholding the belief that they are experts in their own experience.
