Hello! I’m Kimberly
About Me
From a young age I’ve felt a strong pull toward professions focused on helping others. Attending an information session at the University of the Fraser Valley’s social work program solidified my career path. I graduated with my Bachelors of Social Work specialising in Child Welfare in 2014. I went on to complete my Master’s in Social Work from the University of British Columbia in 2018.
In my graduate studies, my research explored the value of attachment, connections, and relationships for Indigenous children and youth. In one of my master’s practica, I had the privilege of guiding children in care and adoptive youth through the process of life story work. Since graduating with my Masters in Social Work, I have been working with children and youth in a counselling setting. My journey has been enriched by working with youth doing outreach counselling, recognizing the significance of connection to the land in healing and well-being.
Children and youth I support may be experiencing difficulties with mental health, such as anxiety, depression, OCD, suicidal ideation, self-harm and other challenges. I integrate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to support young individuals in understanding their thoughts and feelings, managing stress, improving relationships, and developing skills to handle difficult situations. My areas of interest include working with youth ages 10 years and up, and supporting their caregivers
My Philosophy
I value spending time building relationships and meeting young people wherever they are in their journey. I prioritise creating a space where young people can explore their thoughts and feelings without judgment. I want counselling to be a space that is enjoyable and engaging for all youth I work with! I like to incorporate art and games into sessions. I understand the significance of involving families in the process. Collaborating with caregivers is integral to my approach, as it allows us to work together in supporting the growth and well-being of the entire family.
